iconic works outdoors.

NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPRENTICES.

Lakeside Shakespeare is seeking apprentices for our 18th season:

Romeo and Juliet, directed by Jillian Wesley.

Apprentice candidates should be graduating in 2024 or going into their junior or senior year of a college theatre program.  Initial auditions will be by video submission, with potential in-person or Zoom callbacks to follow.

Acting apprentices will be cast in speaking roles and will be working alongside Equity and other professional Chicago actors.  Text and verse coaching will be provided to the apprentice company, and they will also gain experience working outdoors and on the road — while contributing to the positive impact theatre can have on a community.  Apprentices will also help teach children’s and young adults’ workshops during the contracted period, and college credit may be available.  Lakeside Shakespeare is committed to diverse, inclusive casting and upholds a safe environment while striving to do bold work.

Rehearsals begin on June 26th in Chicago, weeknights and weekend days, through July 20th.  On July 22nd the company travels to Frankfort, Michigan to perform through July 28th.  There is a small stipend, housing is provided for the performance weeks, travel is reimbursed and a per diem is paid while in Frankfort.

Please prepare two short contrasting monologues from Shakespeare or his contemporaries, not to exceed three minutes total, and submit them via a vimeo or YouTube link.  If you play an instrument, please also include a short song.

Stage management and managerial apprentice positions may also be available.  For consideration, please email resume and a letter of interest to Executive Director Daniel D. Drake (ddrake@lakesideshakespeare.org).
